So I've signed up for SPN Eldritch again this year:

Shadowy, walking bodies of the dead congregating around a grave marked with a crucifix

Sign-ups 2 June until 1 July

No idea what to write for it yet, I'm still figuring out what I'm going to do for Summergen:

Field of cut corn and a barn with word CROATOAN painted on it

Okay, so despite not having started my Summergen yet, I've gone and signed up for Eldritch Bang 2019.

Untying the Knot. Story by TheYmp. Art by JD71
Title: Untying the Knot
Recipient: [livejournal.com profile] jdl71 (Great prompts and great encouragement - I've never written anything like this before, fingers crossed you like it!)
Author: [livejournal.com profile] theymp
Artist: [livejournal.com profile] jdl71 (So many amazing images, thank you!)
Warnings/Spoilers (if applicable): Dean/Sam, oppressive patriarchy / ABO
Rating: NC-17
Characters: Sam and Dean Winchester
Genre: Family
Word count: ~10,200
Original prompts:

  • Dean has been hurt on a hunt and is delirious. Aside from wanting to pet Sam's hair, he keeps telling Sam he's the best husband in the world.

  • Dean and Sam find themselves in a new reality where they aren't brothers, but a married couple that own a bar.

  • Sam and Dean aren't only brothers but a mated pair with Sam as the alpha and Dean as his omega. What kind of trouble can this cause for them?

Story summary: Dean is mortally wounded, so Sam uses a wish pearl to save him, but instead they're whisked to a very alternate world. At first, all seems great, but then their bodies and minds start to adapt to match the new reality. Will they accept the cost of the changes or risk trying to get back home?

Off to the story...

SPN Horror never materialised and then I was too late to enter SPN Eldritch Bang last year, so this time I might give it a go...

Got this one coming up...

Sign-ups May 1 – May 19 - Click the banner for details!

Although, I'm not sure I even got around to cross-posting my entry from last year...

theymp: (Default)

Ah, the stress of arriving home much later than anticipated on scheduled posting day only to discover the story doesn't have any of the last minute editing changes I'd made before leaving for the weekend!

Still, even without being able to completely reproduce what it was before, I'm still pretty pleased with how my first Sam/Deam came out.

Title: Adventures in Washing Machines (and Dreams of Domestic Bliss) (AO3)
Word count: ~3700

Story summary: It's kinda hard to accept that you're lusting after a guy if you're still picking up and washing his dirty Underoos.

Sam from the waist down (dressed in short-shorts, black socks, and white sneakers) seated on a dryer next to a mop and a washing machine pouring out bubbles

Whoot whoo! Look at those legs!

Weird coincidence: the idea of offsetting the effect of the short-shorts with the black socks and dirty trainers was from a video of Jared Padalecki exercising using a giant tyre. I had a distinct memory of shaking my head at those socks! I've not looked at it since, but just searched for it on YouTube only to find it was uploaded by [livejournal.com profile] amberdreams!

The admins of FanFiction.net are obviously the kind of guests that, when invited over, kick the dog and go about rearranging your furniture to their own liking.

It's my browser - don't be disabling its functionality! How rude!

Fortunately, I got the answer from http://stackoverflow.com/questions/7101982/enabling-blocked-text-selection-using-javascript

Create a shortcut in your browser, then edit out the link by copy and pasting in the following:

javascript:(function(){function ats(){var styles='*,p,div{user-select:text !important;-moz-user-select:text !important;-webkit-user-select:text !important;}';jQuery('head').append(jQuery('<style />').html(styles));var allowNormal=function(){return true;};jQuery('*[onselectstart], *[ondragstart], *[oncontextmenu], #songLyricsDiv').unbind('contextmenu').unbind('selectstart').unbind('dragstart').unbind('mousedown').unbind('mouseup').unbind('click').attr('onselectstart',allowNormal).attr('oncontextmenu',allowNormal).attr('ondragstart',allowNormal);}function atswp(){if(window.jQuery){ats();}else{window.setTimeout(atswp,100);}}if(window.jQuery){ats();}else{var s=document.createElement('script');s.setAttribute('src','http://code.jquery.com/jquery-1.9.1.min.js');document.getElementsByTagName('body')[0].appendChild(s);atswp();}})();

Then just click on the link and it'll unlock the text - great if, like me, you just need some way to mark your place while reading on screen!

Happy reading!

After months of radio silence, the FanFiction site has written two self-congratulatory blog entries about all the improvements they've made recently - although the feedback looks pretty vitriolic. Note to self : people don't cope well with change - people really don't cope well with web-design change.

It's amusing that both of the articles are named "Polishing" and, it seems that in celebration of that, my location seems to have been changed from my manually set "United Kingdom" (after the auto-detection kept showing up as "Iceland") to "Poland".

You can't make this stuff up!

Wattpad

I'd heard about Wattpad before - specifically about a zombie story that Margaret Atwood was collaborating on (although who hasn't done something walking deadish these days? - I mean I'm writing one myself, it's just on hiatus).

I thought I'd give it a quick look - I've set up an account at http://wattpad.com/TheYmp even though I've only recently got round to finally posting something at Fiction Press)

I can't help but wonder if this is where FanFiction got the idea of the "covers" from - except they seem to be so much better done at Wattpad - how come no one at FF seems to do them like actual book covers - I've just had a "d'oh" revelation!

But I did have a very swift perusal of their Supernatural fanfic section... oh my... absolutely nothing but Mary Sues as far as the eye could see...
