Argh, there be spoilers here for SPN S07E16 Out with the old and in with the new...

Why was the cop at the beginning such an awkward bugger? Was it just a red herring? Am I missing something?

Some gruesome scenes. I think this is what they were talking about when they describe the series as going back to be more like season one, because I don't think the Winchester's relationship has.

Did they leave George alive? Surely not, after the whole Amy Pond debacle?

Good question about George - that seemed to be left open, didn't it. I wondered if they let George eat his boss then ganked him too.

As to the cop at the start - I think they were just playing that for comedy/realism. I don't think there was any significance to his attitude!

"I wondered if they let George eat his boss then ganked him too" - that could be described as having your cake and eating it! A saying any Leviathan could get on board with.

I think you're probably right about the significance of the cop, but for some reason it really stuck in my mind!

I did see this episode, but I'm blanking on what was significant about the cop at the beginning. What did he say/do that was awkward?

It didn't seem realistic that they'd leave George alive, but that is what the writers implied. Maybe they're setting him up to be a fifth column in the Leviathan camp?
